Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA)
The Medicaid Information Technology Architecture (MITA) initiative sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is intended to foster integrated business and IT transformation across the Medicaid enterprise to improve the administration of the Medicaid program. MITA is about improving Medicaid business processes using tools and technology. MITA is an initiative and a framework. As an initiative MITA is a plan to promote improvements in the Medicaid enterprise and the systems that support it. This is accomplished by agreements between state agencies and their partners. As a framework, MITA is a blueprint consisting of models, guidelines, and principles for States as they implement enterprise solutions. As a framework MITA is an enabler, which means it provides the necessary “how to” for the implementation of enterprise solutions.
Georgia is now in its second year of MITA implementation and is currently working on dozens of projects that will improve Medicaid business processes and efficiency.
