DCH Welcomes New Senior Advisor

Emily Yona will work closely with Commissioner Carlson on initiatives and issues facing the agency.

Emily Yona joined the Georgia Department of Community Health on December 1 as Commissioner Carlson’s senior advisor. Among other responsibilities, Emily will work closely with the Commissioner on numerous issues facing this agency, provide recommendations on organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, or operations, and serve as Commissioner liaison when needed.

Emily brings extensive knowledge that will serve DCH well. She comes to the agency from the Impact Public Affairs firm, where she served three years as director of policy and legislation, overseeing all state-level policy issues with expertise in healthcare and education. She also brings valuable experience navigating various state agencies and the appropriations process for Georgia’s state budget. Her service also includes prior experience with the Georgia Dental Association, Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals, and Cornerstone Government Affairs.

Emily received her bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Georgia, and is a candidate for her joint master’s degree in business administration and health administration in December 2023.
