Nearly one in four Georgians receives health care coverage through programs of the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH). More than 1.7 million people are enrolled in Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® and another 700,000 members participate in the State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP). DCH is committed to providing access to affordable quality health care to the people that we serve.
Our agency is charged with the planning, purchasing and oversight of the health care and well-being of Georgians. Our Health Information Technology Division leads the state in transforming the delivery of health care services through technology. The Division of Healthcare Facility Regulation licenses nearly 15,000 hospitals, nursing homes, personal care homes and other treatment facilities. Additionally, Health Planning and Certificate of Need matters are handled by the division.
Our agency-wide vision is to promote the health and prosperity of Georgia’s citizens while contributing to a lean and responsive state government. We achieve our vision through the innovative and effective delivery of quality health care programs.
Customer service on all levels – for members of our programs, providers and all Georgians – is paramount. We remain committed to being good listeners, good partners and good stewards of the resources entrusted to us. As we meet the ever-changing needs of our citizens and this great state, we are dedicated to A Healthy Georgia.
