The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) administers the State Health Benefit Plan, which provides health insurance coverage to state and school system employees, contract groups, retirees and eligible dependents. Within DCH, the SHBP division is responsible for the day-to-day management of the State Health Benefit Plan operations.

Changes in Pharmacy Benefits for Specialty Prescription Drug August 1, 2011
Effective August 1, 2011, pharmacy benefits will change in reference to covered specialty prescription drug products. SHBP members are required to use a Specialty Designated Pharmacy to receive coverage for their specialty medication. Specialty Prescription Drug Products obtained from a Non-Network Pharmacy are not eligible for coverage and members will be required to pay the full retail cost for that Specialty Prescription Drug Product. Prescription Drug Mail Order Program offered July 1, 2011
SHBP rolled out a voluntary Mail Order Prescription Drug Program effective July 1, 2011 for Maintenance Prescription Drugs. These prescription drug programs are medications taken on an ongoing basis for the treatment of chronic conditions such as diabetes, ulcers or high blood pressure. Members’ out-of-pocket costs should be less for the mail order prescription drugs.
