System Requirements and Download Instructions
System Requirements
Microsoft Access 2000 or a later version is required. If you have Access 2003, you may need to set the security level to "Low". See the "Frequently Asked Questions" link on the survey download page for more details.
To find out if you have Microsoft Access on your PC and which version you have, follow these steps:
- Click on the Start Menu and select “Programs.” If Microsoft Access is loaded on your PC, you should see it listed on the Programs menu. If not, select “Microsoft Office” from the Programs menu and check there.
- If Access is listed on the menu, select it to run the program.
- If a dialog box appears, click Cancel.
- Select “Help” and then “About Microsoft Access” from the menu at the top of the screen. A box should pop up that lists the version of Access that you have.
Download Instructions
- On the survey download page, click on the appropriate link to download the survey database.
- Be sure to select "OPEN" or "RUN" rather than "Save" when prompted. If "Save" is the only option in the dialog box, check the "Frequently Asked Questions" link on the survey download page for information about how to proceed.
- After you select "Open" or "Run", a setup program will run which will download the survey database to the DCH folder on the C drive. The setup program will overwrite any existing database for the same survey year.
Before You Open the Database
Before you open the database, please review the following:
- The database does not have to be in the DCH folder on the C drive for its features to work. If needed, the database can be moved to another location on your computer or the organization's network by simply cutting and pasting the file. However, the other files in the C:\DCH folder should NOT be moved. Keep in mind that you must electronically submit the survey database from the PC where it was downloaded.
- You can only enter data for one facility in the database. Therefore, if you are working with more than one facility, you must make a copy of the database file for each facility.
How to Open the Database
- Click on the Start Menu and select Programs, Microsoft Access.
- If a dialog box appears, click Cancel.
- Select File, Open from the menu.
- Specify the C drive as the Look-In location.
- Double-click the DCH folder.
- Select the database that you downloaded.
- Click the Open button.
