GRACE
At the bottom of this page, you will find the a link to the summary report of the proceedings from the GRACE Symposium convened in April 2004, by the DCH's Office of Minority Health (OMH). If you were unable to attend the meeting, you will certainly want to peruse this document to see what over 250 stakeholders felt were pertinent issues to address about health disparities in Georgia.
The report summarizes the GRACE proceedings, which presented challenges and plausible solutions about issues of cultural competence, workforce diversity and combating CVD and diabetes in Georgia. Among the areas of focus were:
- Combating unlawful discriminatory practices that may lead to disparities in health;
- Establishing cultural competence in our healthcare system;
- Fostering cultural competence through education, recruitment and retention;
- Addressing cultural competence policy issues, such as mandating cultural competence;
- Implementing flexible standards for diverse populations;
- Implementing cultural competence initiatives in Georgia;
- Administering health care to diverse populations; and
- Promoting appropriate lifestyles to prevent CVD and diabetes.
As a result of GRACE, several attendees decided to collaborate to develop and implement a strategic plan to address and eliminate health disparities in Georgia. It is our desire that this report keep us committed to the cause. Included is a commitment matrix diagram.
As a key stakeholder in this ever-unfolding process, your continued participation is crucial. You will be hearing more when we move forward with the recommendations made through GRACE.
