HIV/AIDS TAKE Project

The Georgia HIV/AIDS TAKE (Take Action Keep Educated) Project is a part of the Office of Health Improvement (OHI) in the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) that works to eliminate disparities in prevention and treatment for HIV/AIDS among Georgia’s minority populations.

This current project is based on the HIV/AIDS TAKE demonstration project. It builds on the findings of the demonstration project and expands the scope of our effort to work with communities statewide.

The communication exchange and consensus recommendations from this project will enhance state efforts to eliminate disparities in the HIV/AIDS prevention and care continuum and improve access to services for underserved populations. Georgia is ninth in population with the sixth highest rate of reported AIDS cases in 2007.

The Office of Minority Health's HIV/AIDS TAKE Project helps minority community-based organizations develop strong programs to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS in Georgia. Through skills development, technical assistance, and help in obtaining funding, the project gives organizations the resources they need to be successful. The project will also study the impact of HIV and AIDS on minority populations in Georgia through surveillance and epidemiological activities.

Funding for the HIV/AIDS project comes from a State and Territorial HIV/AIDS Demonstration Grant by the U.S. Office of Minority Health.
