Divisions

The State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) provides health insurance coverage to state employees, school system employees, retirees and their dependents. The Georgia Department of Community Health's Public Employee Health Benefits Division is responsible for day-to-day operations.

The General Counsel Division provides overall guidance and direction for the operations of the Division; drafts and reviews procurement documents; provides legal services for all aspects of the State Health Benefit Plans; develops policies and procedures for compliance with federal and state privacy and public records requirements; drafts rules, regulations and policies for consideration by the Board of Community Health; and provides staff support for the Health Planning Review Board. Also contains the Certificate of Need Section and the Health Strategies Council.

The Division of Medical Assistance administers the Medicaid program, which provides health care for children, pregnant women, and people who are aging, blind and disabled.

The Managed Care and Quality Division is responsible for establishing and directing the managed care efforts for Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids™ members.

The Division of Financial Management represents the financial interests of the Department. It is comprised of the Office of Planning and Fiscal Analyses, Financial and Accounting Services, Reimbursement Services and the Budget Office.
