Designated Standards Maintainance Organizations
Designated Standards Maintainance Organizations were established to manage the maintenance of the electronic data interchange adopted under HIPAA. The following organizations have been designated as DSMOs:
- Accredited Standards Committee X12 - Develops uniform standards for interindustry electronic interchange of business transactions - electronic data interchange (EDI).
- Dental Content Committee of the American Dental Association - Develops, adopts or modifies national standard content and data definitions for health care transactions affecting dental services.
- Health Level Seven (HL7)- Responsible for standardizing the supplemental information needed to support health care insurance and other e-commerce transactions.
- National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) - Develops, adopts or modifies national standard content and data definitions for health care transactions affecting pharmacy services.
- National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) - Develops, adopts or modifies national standard content and data definitions for health care transactions affecting professional health care services.
- National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC) - Develops, adopts or modifies national standard content and data definitions for health care transactions affecting institutional health care services.
