Assistance for the Uninsured

At the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH), we strive to provide access to affordable, quality health care in our communities.  Having health care coverage is one of the best ways to help you and your family stay healthy.    This new section, “Assistance for the Uninsured,” has been created for those who are not currently insured or may have lost their health care coverage due to a layoff.  The following programs and associations may be able to help you find the coverage you need:

• Georgiahealthinfo.gov is a helpful resource for finding health care services in Georgia.  Use this site to compare different health plans, health care services, cost of prescription medications and gather health education information.
• Medicaid is a medical assistance program that helps many people who can’t afford medical care pay for some or all of their medical bills.   To apply for Medicaid, you must submit a completed application at any local DFCS office, by mail, telephone, fax, e-mail, or at designated agencies.  For additional information on Medicaid, please log onto Applying For Medicaid.
• PeachCare for Kids™ is a comprehensive health care program for uninsured children living in Georgia whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private insurance.   PeachCare for Kids™ requires documentation of citizenship and income for all new applicants.  For more information, please log onto http://www.peachcare.org/ or call 1-877-GA-PEACH (877-427-3224).
• Georgia Free Clinic Network are health care organizations or providers who provide care to the uninsured or underinsured.  This includes free clinics, sliding-scale and donation-based clinics, and other providers that work with the uninsured.  To find a clinic in your area visit http://www.gfcn.org/index.php.
• Georgia’s Community Health Centers offer a comprehensive range of primary health care and other services including: around the clock care, acute illness treatment, prenatal care, well-child care, physicals, preventive services, health education, nutritional counseling, laboratory, x-ray and pharmacy services.  CHCs offer reasonable fees to all residents. Medicare and Medicaid assignments are always accepted, as well as most other insurance coverage. To find a community health center in your area visit
