Hurricane Gustav Evacuees

Evacuees from Louisiana as well as Mississippi who are also Medicaid members in those states may be displaced to Georgia as a result of Hurricane Gustav.  At this time, Georgia Medicaid is not adding those members to the Georgia eligibility files.  In fact, both states have developed abbreviated enrollment forms and processes to get Georgia providers enrolled as LA or MS Medicaid providers as soon as possible.

LouisianaMedicaid:  Providers who wish to enroll in Louisiana Medicaid and were not enrolled as a Katrina provider can go to www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/?ID=92.  and click on  “Gustav” (in black font with the circle); scroll down to “Medicaid Providers” for instructions for enrolling as an entity as well as an individual provider (forms listed below).  Providers who were enrolled in LA Medicaid for the Katrina disaster can submit an email to jphilli2@dhh.la.gov with their Katrina provider number and NPI number, and LA Medicaid will activate their Katrina provider number.

MississippiMedicaid:  Mississippi Medicaid has a similar process.  Providers who wish to enroll in Mississippi Medicaid should complete the Emergency Provider Enrollment Form (forms listed below) located at http://www.medicaid.state.ms.us/.   Instructions for completing the enrollment form are located at the same website address.

Uncompensated Care:  With Hurricane Katrina, an uncompensated care pool was established which allowed state Medicaid agencies to provide coverage for evacuees who were not Medicaid eligible.  This required legislation by Congress and the appropriation of funds.  NOTE: No uncompensated care pool is available at this time in association with Hurricane Gustav evacuees.
