Frequently Asked Questions

How much stimulus money has the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) received?
DCH has not received any stimulus money related to Prevention and Wellness initiatives yet and is waiting for instructions from the federal government on how to apply for the stimulus money.

How do you intend to spend the stimulus money you receive?
One of the missions of DCH is to improve the health of all Georgians. Through collaborative efforts between the Office of Health Improvement, the State Health Benefit Plan, Public Health (currently part of the Department of Human Resources), and the State Office of Rural Health, DCH intends to provide and promote Preventive Health and Wellness services and education statewide.

What will Georgia gain by these initiatives?
DCH hopes to bring about a long-term, sustainable culture change in the health and well-being of Georgians that translates into improved health outcomes, long-term health care savings and increased productivity. DCH intends to promote awareness and adoption of healthier behavioral practices, by focusing on evidence-based screenings such as prostrate cancer, mammography, HIV and biometric screenings in addition to education and awareness about prenatal care, smoking, obesity and other chronic conditions prevalent in certain communities.

How will DCH measure its success in these initiatives?
These initiatives are a long-term investment in the future health of Georgians. Success will be measured by the number of Georgians who become better educated about health issues and by the number of Georgians who increase their compliance with age/gender/condition-specific recommended prevention and treatment protocols.
